The ferry will take you to swim with our dolphins in the protected waters of Sanctuary Bay. Our animal care staff provide guidance on interacting with the animals and are there to answer all your questions. This is truly an “up close and personal” experience with animals going through a variety of behaviors. The minimum age is 12, and under 16 must be accompanied by a participating parent or guardian. No pregnant women, please.

Located on Grand Bahama Island at Sanctuary Bay, The Dolphin Experience is the most unique dolphin facility anywhere in the world. The natural seawater lagoon covers approximately 9.5 acres and holds about 30 million gallons of water. This area is home to sixteen Atlantic bottlenose dolphins ranging from newborn calves to over twenty years of age.

Close Encounter Program

A close-up encounter with the most fascinating animals in the sea. An unforgettable experience for all ages.

A short ferry boat ride along the south shore will take you to Sanctuary Bay, home of The Dolphin Experience and a pod of Atlantic bottlenose dolphins.

Once at the facility, you can observe the friendly Atlantic bottlenose dolphins up close and personal.

Sit with your feet in the water as the dolphins swim around you, or step into shallow water and touch these amazing animals, take pictures from our observation deck, hear interesting facts about the dolphins and ask questions of our animal care staff.

While being given the opportunity to touch a dolphin in waist-deep high water, the public is also invited to engage in discussion with marine mammal specialists at The Dolphin Experience. This highly educational yet fun program is a great way to experience the animals–up close and personal–and provides excellent photo opportunities.

The Close Encounter program is a two hour interaction excursion with boats leaving The Underwater Explorer’s Society in the Port Lucaya area at 10:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. daily.

Cost is $59.00 per person, children five and under are admitted free of charge.

An exclusive opportunity for skilled snorkelers to freedive in the open ocean with the dolphins! 

The ferry will take you to the crystal clear waters of the shallow reef where a pair of bottlenose dolphins will meet you. 

Immerse yourself in the mesmerizing world of these magnificent marine mammals, with a dolphin behaviorist as your guide. 

For experienced snorkelers only. The minimum age is 12 / under 16 and must be accompanied by a participating parent or guardian, Not recommended for pregnant women.
